Pakistani citizens need a visa to visit the United Kingdom for tourism, to see family or friends, for short business trips or for private medical treatment. The usual route is the Standard Visitor visa, which lets you stay up to 6 months per visit. You cannot work or settle on it.
Fee
- Standard Visitor visa (up to 6 months): £135. The Home Office fee tool shows PKR 50,615 for applicants in Pakistan at the time of checking.
- Long-term visit visas, valid 2, 5 or 10 years (still up to 6 months per visit): £506, £903 and £1,128.
- The visa centre may sell optional extra services. They do not affect the decision.
The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused. Check the current amount on GOV.UK before you pay, as UK fees change.
How to apply
- Apply online on GOV.UK. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.
- Pay the fee and book a biometrics appointment (fingerprints and photo) at a UK visa application centre in Pakistan.
- Upload or bring your supporting documents as instructed, attend the appointment, then wait for the decision. GOV.UK publishes the current service standards.
Documents for a UK visit visa
The UK does not use one fixed checklist like Schengen countries. The officer asks one question: are you a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of the visit and can pay for it? Your documents should answer that clearly.
- Passport and old passports with previous visas.
- Bank statements, usually the last 6 months, showing regular income that matches your job or business. See our bank statement guide.
- Employed: employer letter with position, salary, start date and approved leave; recent payslips.
- Business owner: registration or NTN certificate, FBR tax returns and business bank statements.
- Family visit: invitation letter from your host, a copy of their passport or UK residence status, and their address.
- Sponsor (if someone else pays): their bank statements, proof of income and proof of relationship, such as the NADRA FRC.
- Travel plan: dates and where you will stay. You do not usually need to buy tickets before the decision.
- Any document not in English needs a full certified translation.
Why UK visit visas get refused
- Income on the form that does not match the bank statement or payslips.
- A large deposit shortly before applying with no explanation of where it came from.
- A trip whose cost looks out of proportion to your income, without a clear sponsor.
- Weak or unclear reasons to return: job, business, family, studies.
- Not declaring a previous refusal from any country.
