For Pakistanis in the UK

UK visit visa for parents and family from Pakistan

If you live in the UK and want your mum and dad, in-laws or siblings to visit, they will normally apply for a Standard Visitor visa from Pakistan. Here is how to put your side of the file together properly, and how we help with theirs.

A family visit is one of the most common reasons Pakistanis apply for a UK visa, and one of the most commonly refused. Usually the problem is not the family in Pakistan or the host in the UK on their own. It is that the two halves of the application were put together separately, by different people, and they do not quite fit.

Which visa your family needs

Parents, siblings and other relatives coming for a holiday, a wedding, the birth of a grandchild or simply to see you normally apply for the Standard Visitor visa on GOV.UK. A visit can last up to six months. Long-term visit visas valid for 2, 5 or 10 years also exist for people who visit often, but each stay is still limited, and the officer must be satisfied that the pattern of visits is genuine. A visitor cannot make the UK their home through frequent or back-to-back visits, cannot work, and cannot get free NHS treatment for a planned condition. The UK has no formal sponsorship form for visitors: your documents are supporting evidence. Check the current fees, processing times and rules on GOV.UK before applying.

A tuberculosis test is required for applicants from Pakistan only when they are coming for more than six months, so it does not normally apply to a standard family visit.

What you prepare in the UK

  • A letter of invitation, signed and dated: your full name and address, your immigration status (British citizen, settled, or your visa type), your relationship to each visitor, the purpose and dates of the visit, where they will stay and who is paying. Keep it factual. An emotional letter does not help; a clear one does.
  • Proof of your status: a copy of your British passport, or evidence of your settled status or visa.
  • Proof of address and accommodation: a tenancy agreement or mortgage statement, and a recent council tax or utility bill. If the house is shared or small, say how many people live there.
  • If you are paying for the trip: recent bank statements, payslips and an employment letter, or self-assessment and business records if you are self-employed. The officer will consider whether you can genuinely afford it alongside your own family's needs.
  • Proof of relationship: a NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is often the simplest, with birth or marriage certificates where useful.

What your parents prepare in Pakistan

  • Current and old passports, and details of any previous UK or other visas, including refusals.
  • Their own bank statement and income: pension, salary, business, rent or agricultural income, with property documents where relevant. Large unexplained deposits are a red flag.
  • Evidence of their life in Pakistan: home, family members staying behind, business, responsibilities.
  • A cover letter in their own voice that matches your invitation on dates, purpose and who pays.

Our UK visit visa guide covers the Pakistan side in more detail.

Common reasons UK family visits are refused

  • The officer is not satisfied that the visitor is genuine and will leave at the end of the visit, often because ties in Pakistan are not shown.
  • Finances that do not add up: sudden deposits, a sponsor whose income is stretched, or no explanation of who pays for what.
  • Inconsistencies between the form, the invitation letter and the bank statements.
  • Very long or frequent previous stays, which can suggest the UK is becoming a second home.
  • Undeclared previous refusals or immigration history.

There is normally no right of appeal against a UK visit visa refusal. The usual options are a stronger fresh application or, where the decision looks legally wrong, a pre-action protocol (PAP) letter as the first step towards judicial review.

How we help

  • We read your invitation and sponsor documents and your parents' documents side by side, and flag anything that clashes.
  • We help you write an invitation letter that is accurate and complete, and prepare your parents' cover letter and travel plan.
  • We prepare the online application answers with your family and check every page before submission.
  • We explain the biometrics appointment at the UK visa application centre in Pakistan.

How it works when you are abroad and they are in Pakistan

  1. You or your relative write to us at [email protected] or through the form below. Tell us who is travelling, where you live, your status there and roughly when they want to come.
  2. Free case review. We look at both sides of the case, yours and theirs, and tell you honestly what is strong, what is weak and whether the timing makes sense.
  3. You see the work first. We prepare a sample or a checked part of the file so you can judge the quality. You pay our fee only once you are satisfied.
  4. We complete the file. Checklist, application form, cover letter, travel plan and a final cross-check of every document from both countries.
  5. Your relative attends only the official appointment for biometrics or interview. You stay in control of the application and its account throughout.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need to be a British citizen to invite my parents to the UK?+

No. Anyone living lawfully in the UK can invite visitors. Your status and documents help show the purpose of the visit, but the decision is about your parents' own circumstances.

Is there an official UK sponsorship form for visitors?+

No. For a Standard Visitor visa there is no formal sponsorship form. Your invitation letter and documents are supporting evidence.

How long can my parents stay in the UK on a visit visa?+

Normally up to six months per visit. Long-term visit visas of 2, 5 or 10 years exist, but each stay is still limited and visits must be genuine. Check GOV.UK for the current rules.

Can I pay for my parents' UK visa file from the UK?+

Yes. Many of our clients pay from abroad. We review the case first and show you a sample or checked part of the file; you pay only when you are satisfied.

My parents were refused before. Can you help?+

Yes. Send us the refusal letter. We will tell you honestly whether a fresh application is sensible now, and whether a PAP letter is worth considering.
