Parents visiting for a wedding or a new baby

Weddings and births have fixed dates, so timing is everything. Start early, show the event clearly, and plan a visit that fits the rules.

Two of the most common reasons families abroad invite parents from Pakistan are a wedding and the birth of a grandchild. Both are genuine, well-understood purposes. The usual problem is not the reason but timing and paperwork.

When to apply

  • Schengen: you can apply up to 6 months before travel. Appointments in Pakistan can be scarce in busy months, so begin early. See Schengen appointments in Pakistan.
  • UK: you can apply up to 3 months before travel. Check current processing times and allow a margin.
  • Canada: processing times vary widely. Apply as early as you can. If parents may visit often or for long stays, the super visa is another route to look at.
  • USA: interview waiting times in Islamabad and Karachi change. Check them before setting a date.

Evidence of the event

  • Wedding: the invitation card, venue booking or confirmation, and a letter from the couple.
  • New baby: a letter from the host about the expected due date, and if available, a letter or appointment record from the hospital or midwife.
  • An invitation letter that gives the dates, where they will stay and who pays.

Know the visitor rules

Visitors can attend a wedding, stay with family and spend time with a new grandchild. They cannot work, and that includes paid childcare or acting as a long-term carer. Describe the visit honestly as a family visit, with a clear return date.

Practical tips

  • Do not buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is issued.
  • Ask for a length of stay that fits the event, not the maximum allowed.
  • Make sure the parents' own papers, such as bank statements, pension or property, are ready. See visit visa documents.

How we help

We plan the timeline backwards from the date of the event and prepare both sides of the file. Schengen PKR 20,000 per person; USA DS-160 PKR 50,000 per person or PKR 100,000 for a family of 4. Families abroad can read how remote help works.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can my mother stay to help after the baby is born?+

She can visit and spend time with the family as a visitor. She cannot work or be employed as a carer or nanny. Keep the stay to a sensible length with a clear return.

How early should we apply for a summer wedding in Europe?+

As early as the rules allow, up to 6 months before travel for Schengen. Appointments for June to August are often in high demand.

Do we need the wedding card for the visa?+

It is good supporting evidence of the purpose, along with the invitation letter. It does not replace the applicant's own financial and personal documents.
