Schengen visa appointment in Pakistan: booking it and using it well

Getting a slot is often the hardest part of a Schengen application from Pakistan. Here is how the booking works and how to make sure the appointment is not wasted.

Every Schengen country in Pakistan takes applications through its embassy or an outside visa centre. Depending on the country, that is VFS Global, TLScontact or BLS International, and the centres are mostly in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. The embassy decides the visa. The visa centre only books appointments, takes your documents, fingerprints and photo, and sends the file to the embassy.

First decide which country you apply to

You book with the country where you will spend the most nights. If the nights are equal, you book with the country you enter first. Booking with another country because its slots open sooner is a common reason for refusal. Our guide to France, Italy, Germany or Spain explains this in detail.

When to book

  • You can apply up to 6 months before your trip. Aim for at least 15 days before, and much earlier in the busy season.
  • Use the link to the visa centre given on the official embassy page. Do not pay agents who say they can "buy" a slot. Appointments are booked in your own name through the official system.
  • Have your passport details ready when you book. The name and passport number must match exactly.

Prepare the file before you book

Many people book first and then rush to collect documents. Do it the other way round. Get the bank statement, tax documents, NOC or business papers, insurance and bookings ready first, so the dates in every paper match. Use our Schengen documents checklist.

What to bring on the day

  • Original passport plus old passports, and the appointment confirmation.
  • Signed application form and photos to the consulate's size rules.
  • All documents in the order the checklist gives, with photocopies if the consulate asks for them.
  • The visa fee and the visa centre's service charge. Check the current amounts on the official site before you go.

Biometrics

Your fingerprints are taken for the Visa Information System. If you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months, you may not need to give them again, but the centre decides this on the day. Children under 12 do not give fingerprints.

Mistakes that waste an appointment

  • A missing original document, such as the bank maintenance certificate or the FRC.
  • Hotel or flight dates that do not match the form.
  • Insurance that does not cover every day of the trip.
  • Arriving late, or without the exact fee.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can a consultant guarantee a Schengen appointment date?+

No. Slots are released by the visa centre for each embassy, and nobody honest can promise a date. Be careful with anyone who charges extra to get you a slot.

Can someone else attend the appointment for me?+

No. Each applicant aged 12 or over attends in person for fingerprints, unless the centre tells you otherwise. A parent attends with a child.

Which city should I book in?+

Usually the centre that covers your province or the city nearest to you. The embassy or visa-centre page lists which centre serves which area.
